FRIENDS OF FIJI HEART FOUNDATION was launched on the 17 August 2006 at the Mahatma
Gandhi Centre
in Auckland. FRIENDS OF FIJI HEART FOUNDATION is a charitable trust which
provides free operations for
the poor and needy citizens of Fiji who are suffering from valvular
heart disease.
"It is estimated that hundreds of patients in Fiji are suffering from valvular heart disease (heart valve
problem or hole in the heart). These cases require surgical intervention but are presently unable to
receive this treatment in Fiji. The financial cost of this type of heart operation to be done overseas is also
very expensive. Patients of all age are dying due to the lack of local treatment and the high cost of this
operation overseas........." -Dr Parma Nand.
